The openings at the base give shrimp multiple entry and exit points so they can move in and out from any direction without competing for a single entrance. The interior stays naturally shaded throughout the day which is the kind of enclosed dark space shrimp actively seek out during molting and resting. The pyramid silhouette reads as a distinct visual element in the tank and works especially well in minimalist or geometric aquascapes where the shape adds intentional structure to the layout rather than blending into the background.
Shrimp keepers running breeding colonies often prefer taller hides because the height creates a more enclosed and sheltered interior than a flat dome or low tunnel — berried females in particular will stay tucked inside a deeper shelter for longer periods, which reduces stress during the most critical window of the breeding cycle. The pyramid also gives shrimplets a protected interior space in the early days after hatching when staying out of sight from adult colony members matters most for juvenile survival rates. Position it near a moss cluster or plant grouping and shrimp will use both the interior and the exterior surface as grazing and resting territory throughout the day.
