The metal bulb mounts to the glass wall of the enclosure using a magnet so you can position it at any height without drilling, gluing, or permanently modifying the tank. The one-foot climbing vine and soft natural moss are included in the set — arrange the vine up the wall leading to the bulb opening and tuck the moss inside or around the entrance to give it a natural feel right from the start. Jumping spiders are arboreal and spend the majority of their time in the upper portion of their enclosure, so a hide mounted higher up the glass wall is where they will actually use it. Most jumping spiders will find the bulb within the first day and begin using it as a primary rest and sleep spot, often sealing themselves inside with a small web at night. Sized for Phidippus audax and Phidippus regius, the two most commonly kept jumping spider species.

Jumping spiders have become one of the fastest growing groups in the exotic pet hobby over the last few years, particularly with younger keepers and first-time invertebrate owners who are drawn to how interactive and visually expressive they are. One thing that surprises new keepers is how strongly jumping spiders respond to having a proper elevated hide — a spider with a secure sleep spot at the top of its enclosure is noticeably calmer, more active during the day, and more likely to come to the front of the enclosure to interact. Without an established hide they tend to be restless and will web in random corners rather than settling into a consistent routine.

The metal bulb is durable and will not degrade under the humidity levels of a jumping spider enclosure. The moss can be lightly misted to maintain moisture if preferred. Slide the magnets apart from the side when repositioning rather than pulling straight off the glass. Reposition any time without disturbing the rest of the enclosure layout. Rinse the bulb before first use. Compatible with standard glass arboreal enclosures used for jumping spiders and other small arboreal invertebrates.
