The probe sits inside the water while the LED display unit mounts on the outside of the glass or acrylic wall, keeping the readout dry and easy to see without opening the tank or reaching inside. Setup takes about two minutes — attach the display to the outside of the glass and run the probe over the rim and into the water. The LED screen is bright enough to read from across the room, which makes it easy to do a quick check every time you walk past the tank without stopping or crouching down to look. Compatible with both glass and acrylic aquariums and works across the full temperature range you would encounter in any freshwater or reptile setup, from cold water axolotl tanks running in the low 60s to tropical cichlid tanks in the upper 80s.

Temperature is the single most important variable in a fish or reptile tank and it is also the one most likely to shift without the keeper noticing. Heaters fail, power goes out, a window gets left open — any of these can push the tank outside a safe range before the animal shows visible symptoms of stress. A reliable digital thermometer mounted somewhere visible means you catch those shifts early rather than after the damage is done. Axolotls are especially sensitive, with a safe range of roughly 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and even a brief spike above 72 can cause serious stress. Bettas, discus, and other tropical species are equally dependent on stable warmth to maintain their immune function and color.

Read in Fahrenheit or Celsius depending on your preference. Rinse the probe before placing it in an established tank. Replace the battery as needed — battery type will be listed on the unit. Not waterproof beyond the probe itself — keep the display unit and battery compartment dry at all times. Works with freshwater aquariums, reptile tanks, amphibian enclosures, and turtle setups.
