Pure calcium carbonate supplement for molting isopod colonies.
Crushed Oyster Shell – Isopod Calcium 3oz
Provides the calcium carbonate isopods need to harden their exoskeleton after each molt and recover faster throughout the colony's life cycle.
100% natural crushed oyster shell with no additives — scatter on the substrate or place in a dish and isopods will find and graze on it consistently.

Scatter a small amount directly onto the substrate surface or place it in a shallow feeding dish and isopods will find it and graze on it consistently throughout the day. Calcium carbonate is the primary mineral isopods use to rebuild and harden their exoskeleton immediately after each molt, and without a reliable source available in the enclosure the post-molt hardening process takes longer and leaves the animal exposed and vulnerable during that window. The 3oz bag is enough to supplement a standard enclosure for several weeks and can be replenished as the colony works through it. Works across tropical, temperate, and arid setups for all commonly kept isopod species.
Isopods molt regularly throughout their life cycle and each shed requires a significant calcium investment to harden the new shell in the hours after it forms. In a bioactive enclosure without a standing calcium source, isopods will sometimes consume the shed exoskeletons of colony mates to recoup the mineral — a behavior that is normal but signals the enclosure is not keeping up with the colony's calcium demand. Adding crushed oyster shell as a permanent supplement removes that gap and keeps the colony molting cleanly and recovering faster across the board. It also benefits millipedes and other molting invertebrates sharing the enclosure.
Place a small pile on the substrate surface or in a dedicated feeding dish where it stays visible and accessible at all times. Replenish as the supply is consumed — larger and more active colonies will go through it faster. Store in a cool dry place with the bag sealed between uses. Compatible with all bioactive substrate mixes, drainage layer builds, and live plant setups. Safe for Porcellio, Armadillidium, Porcellionides, Cubaris, and all other commonly kept isopod species.
