Bromeliad Leaf Pod – Dart Frog Hide

The pod is shaped to replicate the cupped interior of a bromeliad leaf — the exact structure dart frogs instinctively seek out in the wild for shelter, moisture retention, and egg laying. Place it at ground level or prop it at a slight angle against the vivarium wall and frogs will find and begin using it within the first day or two of introduction. Bromeliads play a central role in the natural habitat of most dart frog species. In the wild, thumbnail dart frogs in particular spend the majority of their time inside bromeliad axils — the water-collecting cups formed by the overlapping base leaves of the plant. They shelter there, breed there, and raise tadpoles in the small pools of water that collect inside. Replicating that structure inside a vivarium gives captive frogs a reference point they are biologically wired to respond to, which reduces stress and encourages more natural activity and breeding behavior over time.
